Wait upon the lord

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31
One of my life’s greatest pleasures, and indeed blessings, is spending time with my children. My daughter is almost always receptive to my constant affection through hugs, kisses, hand-holding, and love songs. Yes, I have a love song I sing to her by Joe Cocker entitled, “You Are So Beautiful To Me,” and it brings a smile to her face every single time. She looks into my eyes as I am reciting the lyrics to her in my best vocal ability, which isn’t much, and she knows that every single word is for her and her alone. I sing this song to nobody else but her, so this is our little special few minutes that we share from time to time.
On the other hand, my son is not always as willing to be loved as my daughter. I often hear from him, “Stop it, Daddy!” he says in the cutest way possible while grinning from cheek to cheek. But there are times when he enjoys being cuddled, mainly when he is drinking his morning ba-ba (warm milk). So this morning, I pulled him into bed while he had breakfast and covered him with my blanket as we snuggled. I noticed he would shake the cup occasionally to see how much milk he had left as he drank because the flow stopped. He would drink until a vacuum built up inside the cup, and the milk would stop flowing. He would pull it away from his mouth, allow air to bubble into the cup, and resume drinking. In other words, there came the point where he had done all that he could and needed to step back and allow things to work themselves out.
This is an excellent concept for us to learn from this little child. I do not believe God wants us to sit dormant in this life and expect him to do everything. He wants us to participate in the success of our tests and trials because faith is an action word (James 2:26). But there does come the point when we have done all that we can and now must exercise our faith differently by waiting upon the Lord. So I encourage you today that if you have hit a roadblock in your spiritual life, this does not signify the end. It only means that you must rely upon the Lord to breathe into your spiritual cup and release the flow of the blessings he so desperately wants to give you!
