Deeper revelation

And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall. Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door. And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. –Ezekiel 8:7-9
“And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall.” Nothing is hidden from the eyes of the Lord, regardless of our best efforts to do so. Seeing that the people’s sins are not only known but revealed to the servant of God. Sometimes today, this person may be your pastor since they are, in a measure, responsible for your soul. Notice also that God’s understanding of our weaknesses is so keen that he can pinpoint them in our lives, intimated here by the hole in the wall. This hole will eventually be increased to reveal a door showing that the Lord knows how to get to the source of our situations. He need not search the wall for cracks or crevices but already knows the exact problem and the necessary solution.
“Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door.” We have already seen how the Lord will reveal our circumstances to those he will use to our advantage, but notice here that the prophet must dig. Before we are fit to be used to delivering someone, we will be required to invest time digging into the Word of God, thus preparing ourselves for the call. We cannot execute the will of the Lord if we have no idea what that is. Notice that the prophet’s vision increases once the digging has been accomplished. Before, his view of the situation was limited to a small hole; now, after his obedience and effort, it has increased to a door. It would thus seem that those who invest time in becoming acquainted with the Word will be granted greater access to the wisdom and mind of God.
“And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.” Now having shown a willingness to invest time into the things of God, notice that the prophet is now invited to take a deeper look. Note that if we desire to know the mind of God and have access to his infinite wisdom, we must be willing to make the sacrifice and investment. Being shown the hole is one thing, but having a desire to see where it leads is quite another. Many are called, but few are chosen (Luke 12:48), meaning not everyone is willing to accept and sacrifice. Everyone is called to peek through the hole, and those satisfied with tunnel vision will go no further. But those who desire to expand into the mysteries of God to gain more profound revelation will dig deep into his Word and study to show themselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15).
